2025 Comprehensive OG Teacher Guides

Newly-designed Comprehensive OG+ Teacher Guides will maintain IMSE multimodal routines, weekly structure, and scope and sequence, but will include:

Design:

an explicit vocabulary routine for teaching a new word
a comprehension planning framework
IOG will change to IMSE LAB and have more features and support
Teacher Guide concepts will be broken down by day with suggestions for what to include each day.
Daily lesson plan guidance for each concept including:
- Objectives for each component
- Weekly assessment
- Designation for activity group size (whole, small, individual)

Differentiation:

Guidance and suggestions for differentiation and scaffolding, including extension activities
EL: Cross-linguistic connections for kindergarten concepts and anytime a new sound is taught in Grade 1 or Grade 2
Cognate examples and cognates for vocabulary words when available
Cognates for vocabulary words

Literacy focus:

Phonemic awareness practice will include word lists for segmenting and blending phonemes will be provided with each concept
a word-building kit with letter tiles for spelling words (one kit provided with training; student kits available for purchase)
a word-building chaining activity with phoneme manipulations (one list of words for the activity per concept)
a list of recommended vocabulary for explicit teaching (select words taken across all 3 decodable readers per concept and included in the Teacher Guide with each concept)
addition of uppercase letter formation language
sound scenes for kindergarten concepts
language regarding opportunities for teaching additional suffixes and prefixes throughout the sequence
